Another accident on Kantara Chapter 1 sets:

A tragic incident occurred on the sets of Kantara Chapter 1, the much-anticipated prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, as a boat capsized during filming in coastal Karnataka. According to early reports, one crew member is feared dead, while a few others sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. A latest report also suggests that all 30 members have come out safely.

The incident reportedly took place during the shooting of a sequence involving a traditional boat on a river near Mangaluru. The team was filming a pivotal water-based scene when the mishap occurred. Due to unpredictable water currents and what sources say might have been inadequate safety measures, the boat overturned, leading to chaos on the sets.

Actor-director Rishab Shetty, who plays the lead and also helms the film, was reportedly present but is unharmed. Production has now been temporarily halted as police and rescue teams carry out further investigation and recovery operations. A statement from the production house is expected soon.

Kantara Chapter 1 has been in the spotlight ever since it was announced, promising to explore the mythological roots of the Panjurli Daiva and Bhoota Kola traditions. The original film was hailed for its cultural depth and gripping storytelling, and the prequel is among the most awaited films in Kannada cinema.

This unfortunate accident has cast a shadow over the production, raising serious concerns about on-set safety and prompting calls for stricter protocols during complex action sequences, especially those involving natural elements. Previously, there was another drowning incident when the team lost one of the junior artists from the film.
