Speaking at the We The Women event, the actor expressed disappointment over how her comment about being on her period was received on social media.

Ayesha said, “Me being on period has suddenly become a national joke. It’s unfortunate that whatever you do or say these days, everything is a joke, dark humour, and fun.” She acknowledged that humour has its place but stressed that not everything should become meme material.

“It’s a good thing that you can laugh about everything. But to laugh at anything and everything isn’t exactly fun,” she added, pointing out the thin line between humour and insensitivity in the current digital culture.

Clarifying the context of her earlier remark, Ayesha explained that she had not anticipated the reaction. “It was a normal interview and I did not even realise the fact while sharing it because for me it was not a big deal and it’s so normal for me,” she said.

The actor also highlighted the broader reality many women face. “Every month, we go through this cycle. We do so many things when we’re on periods,” she noted, underlining that menstruation should not be treated as something unusual or laughable.
