Avatar Fire And Ash Box Office:
James Cameron’s much-awaited epic Avatar Fire and Ash has opened to a surprisingly muted response at the Indian box office. The film collected approximately ₹18 crore nett on its opening day, a sharp drop when compared to Avatar The Way of Water, which had debuted at around ₹39 crore nett in India. That marks a steep 54–55% decline, raising serious concerns within trade circles.
Avatar Fire and Ash Review: Yet Another Astonishing Cinematic Grandeur by James Cameron
Given the legacy of the Avatar franchise and Cameron’s proven pull with Indian audiences, expectations were significantly higher. While Fire and Ash still commands premium formats and niche loyalty, the opening clearly signals that the excitement hasn’t translated into footfalls at the expected scale.

One of the major factors appears to be lacklustre marketing. The buzz on the ground felt subdued, especially when compared to the aggressive and immersive promotional campaign mounted for The Way of Water. In addition, the ongoing Dhurandhar wave has dominated mass circuits and single screens, diverting attention and screens away from Cameron’s spectacle. That said, Avatar films traditionally enjoy strong urban and premium multiplex audiences, making this underperformance even more surprising.

Starring Sam Worthington as Jake Sully and Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri, the film also features Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, and younger cast members Britain Dalton, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, and Jack Champion. Visually, the film continues Cameron’s tradition of pushing cinematic boundaries, but spectacle alone may not be enough this time.

With such a soft start, all eyes are now on the weekend trend. Disney India’s distribution team is likely worried, as a franchise of this scale depends heavily on a strong opening. The coming days will decide whether Fire and Ash can recover through word-of-mouth—or settle as the weakest Avatar performer in India so far.
