It was way back in 1990 when Amitabh Bachchan's famed baritone was heard in Agneepath where he introduced his 'poora naam' - Vijay Deenanath Chauhan.
Circa 2016 and Arjun Rampal is clearly getting inspired by the dramatic act, what with his introduction in upcoming release Daddy carrying similar undertones.
"Agneepath carried this really pivotal interrogation scene where Amitabh Bachchan is called to a police station. He introduces himself as Vijay Deenanath Chauhan and boasts about 'maut k saath appointment'. In Daddy too, there is an interrogation scene underway where Arjun Rampal is asked about his activities in the underworld. While he gives monosyllabic answers to all the questions without even raising an eyebrow, he raises his head with a great swag when it comes to his name. He announces himself as Arun Gulab Gawli with quite some pride and the scene instantly reminds one of Agneepath," says a source attached to the film.
The film, which is based on the life of underworld don turned politician Arun Gawli, is a factual account which has Arjun Rampal playing the title role. The actor has also produced the film.
"You can't be sure of recreating such magic but sometimes a scene turns out on the same lines as something really spectacular that was created many years ago. Memories of Agneepath are still afresh more than 25 years after its release. In fact there were great expectations that Hrithik Roshan would recreate a similar introduction scene in the film's remake as well. However, director Karan Malhotra styled it differently and brought it towards the pre-climax in an altogether different setting. Ashim Ahluwalia, director of Daddy, has stayed loyal to Agneepath though for Arjun's introduction," our source adds.
Well, one can pretty much say that the impact has indeed been felt. Now one looks forward to how the entire film plays once it releases all over in February next year.
