Tell us something about your forthcoming film Dev D
Dev D is a take off point from Devdas in the sense the idea of Dev D is to try and explore. Devdas has gone beyond being a book or a movie and it's become an adjective. It's in our everyday usage whenever we see somebody mopping around we say "hey! Don't be a Devdas". So the idea was to explore the adjective that it has become and through which I wanted to talk about the youth on how they look at love life relationship in today's age where it's the age of fast car, fat cash, and fast food instant gratification. Does it really happen that people really longing for one woman for rest of their life because I don't see that happening today as time has changed. So it was trying to explore all that using Devdas as a medium.
How right are we when we say its Abhay Deol's concept?
Yes! The core idea began with Abhay. He was the one who told me this idea of this boy lost in strip bar in LA and that triggered off hell lot of idea that was in my mind and showed me the possibility of adapting Devdas. So definitely it was Abhay's baby who gave it to me to bring it up.
How did the journey from Abhay's core idea to finally completing a film on it go ahead?
The journey was very long after Abhay'ss concept. Vikram Aditya Motwani was my cowriter we asked him to first adapt Devdas. So first he did that and then I took that script and completely turned it around, got involved with and got in it the various issues that are the headlines to bring in there and explore them and try to see the point of view of people that were often victims of the circumstances. This film is about a second chances, we give up on people and say "Iska Kuch Nahin Ho Sakta" and we need to know if something actually happens of him or not and the film is also trying to see that.
Is Dev D a remake on a book or a film?
No, the book was the starting point and not the film. Not even a single Devdas that has been made was referred.
