Anurag Basu on similarities of his movie with Saiyaara:
Filmmaker Anurag Basu has firmly denied claims that his upcoming film starring Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela bears similarities to the recently released blockbuster Saiyaara. The rumors began after some viewers speculated that both films featured a female protagonist suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia.

During a conversation with Midday, Filmmaker Basu clarified that his film does not include that plot point and made it clear that there are no rewrites or reshoots happening. Addressing the comparisons, the director stated, “In my film, the girl doesn’t have dementia. We are not rewriting or re-shooting. I knew beforehand that the girl has Alzheimer’s in Saiyaara. So, why would I write the same plot point in mine?”

According to sources close to the filmmaker, Basu was well aware of Saiyaara’s storyline even before the film went into production. Director Mohit Suri, who helmed Saiyaara, had reportedly narrated the story to Basu early on, ensuring complete transparency between the two filmmakers.

Insiders also note that Basu’s film takes a different narrative route, focusing on a unique emotional arc for its characters without overlapping with the themes explored in Saiyaara. The comparison, therefore, seems to stem more from speculation than fact. Basu also said he congratulated Suri for the huge success of Saiyaara and his Twitter post had gone viral a few days ago. Suri even thanked his Guru-like figure after his appreciation post.
