It is time for many to relive their childhood. For decades, the tales of Chacha Chaudhary, Pinky, Billoo and more have been regaling readers. Especially those who have brought up in the 80s would recollect sheer joy that Indian comics on the bookstands use to exude. Diamond Toons was a force to reckon with and while graphic novels have found attention amongst current generation of kids, the old world charm of simple characters in diverse situations hasn't diminished.
No wonder, the makers of upcoming release Sniff have partnered with Diamond Toons and the outcome is their first ever comic book series - Sunny Gill & The Agents of S.N.I.F.F.
Directed by Amole Gupte, the film is first in the franchise that has been put together by Ajit Thakur of Trinity Pictures, an in-house franchise label of Eros. While the First Look poster of the film as well as a teaser introducing the central character (Sunny Gill - an 8 year old boy) has already been unveiled, the marketing of Sniff is taking a further push with the comic book being placed on the stands.
The first tale in this comic book series is titled Pickle Pandemonium, which has been put together by Yogesh Chandekar & Saumin Patel. It introduces the characters of Sunny Gill and his friends, interestingly nicknamed Twitter and Google respectively. Together, they embark on a mission where a secret pickle recipe of Sunny's father and grandmother is leaked, and together they have a task in hand to zero down on the suspects and unveil the motive behind this theft.
While the plot may sound quite simple, the comic book doesn't take your intelligence for granted and caters well to the age group of 6-12 year olds. Since the core strength of Sunny Gill is to sniff anything extraordinary from a distance, one does get to hear (and smell) how he goes about unveiling the mystery.
Of course the very first book doesn't delve into how Sunny gill got his powers, which means a lot is still left to be told about the origin story of it all. However, this could well be answered on 5th May when the film releases.
Till then though, the makers are promising a series of comic books to be unveiled on Sunny Gill & The Agents of S.N.I.F.F.. What makes it all the more interesting is the fact that Sunny would also be solving a big case soon enough with none other than Chacha Chaudhary himself.
Now that should indeed turn out to be nostalgic times for the adults as well who would like to grab a piece of history into their plate as well!
