Legendary music composer and the Padma Bhushan-recipient Mohammed Zahur "Khayyam" Hashmi, popularly known as 'Khayyam' passed away on Monday after suffering a cardiac arrest at the age of 92.

Several Bollywood celebrities took social media to express their grief over the demise of the legend and paid their condolence.

Amitabh Bachchan Tweeted,

"T 3262 - .. a legend in music .. a soft spoken amiable soul .. one that contributed to several films and some of the more important ones of mine .. passes away .. KHAYAM sahib .. for all the memorable music he conducted and produced .. prayers condolences "

Ayushmann Khurrana wrote on Twitter, "RIP Khayyam saab."

The legendary singer, Lata Mangeshkar tweeted,

"Mahan sangeetkar Aur bahut nek dil insan Khayyam sahab aaj humare bich nahi rahe. Ye sunkar mujhe itna dukh hua hai jo main bayaa’n nahi kar sakti.Khayyam sahab ke saath sangeet ke ek yug ka anth hua hai.Main unko vinamra shraddhanjali arpan karti hun."

Javed Akhtar wrote,

"Khayyam saheb the great music director has passed away . He has given many all time great song but to  make him immortal only one was enough “ voh subah kabhi to aayehi “

Sonam Kapoor shared few beautiful lines of the composer in his memory,

"Kabhi kabhi mere dil mein khayaal aata hai

Ki jaise tujhko banaya gaya hai mere liye

Ki jaise tujhko banaya gaya hai mere liye

Tu abse pehle sitaaron mein bas rahi thi kahin

Karan Johar Tweeted,

"RIP Khayyamsaab!!! Your music lives on......"

The Prime Minister of our country, Mr. Narendra Modi also paid his respect and tweeted,

"India will remain grateful to Khayyam Sahab for giving us some of the most memorable compositions, which will be remembered forever. He will also be remembered for his humanitarian gestures to support upcoming artists. His demise is extremely saddening."

Condolences poured in from the music industry.

Shankar Mahadevan wrote,

"Kabhi kabhi , Umrao Jaan and many more gems !! Your music will remain on this planet till humans exist.. RIP Khayyamsaab .. will miss you"

Singer Sona Mohapatra shared her memory and wrote,

My father used to play this often when I was 8/9 & I loved it since . शामेंघमकीक़सम, आजघमभीहैहम.. a brilliant composition, like many others we loved from Razia Sultan to my fav ‘Tere Chehre Se Nazar Nahin’ Kabhie Kabhie..

Khayyam Saab, no more. 🏾

Khayyam is best known for composing music of films like Umrao Jaan, Razia Sultana, Kabhi Kabhie and Bazaar to name a few.

He had been admitted in the ICU of Mumbai's Sujoy Hospital since July 28 and was critical since his admission. He was suffering from lung ailments and finally breathed his last yesterday.

RIP Khayyam Saab. You will be missed.
