In a surprising turn, Alia Bhatt has reportedly stepped away from filmmaker Nag Ashwin’s upcoming untitled project. The film, envisioned as a woman-led drama, has been on the director’s mind for some time and is now said to be moving forward with a new leading lady. The reason for Alia's exit is one of her next projects, Chamunda, a horror comedy film produced by Maddock. Her dates have been booked for the horror flick and Nag couldn't wait until then.

A source close to the production revealed to MidDay, “Nag didn’t let go of the idea of the woman-led film. It was simmering on the backburner through most of 2025. With the developments in Kalki 2, bringing the other project forward is a possibility.”

With Alia’s exit, buzz suggests that Sai Pallavi is being considered to take on the central role. However, her schedule remains packed. The actress is currently committed to Nitesh Tiwari’s two-part Ramayana, where she plays a key role. “She is expected to wrap up the second instalment of Ramayana by mid-2026. If the dates align, she could step into Nag’s film before he moves to Kalki 2,” the source added.

Industry insiders caution that nothing is final yet. “Schedules and casting could shift, given the dynamic nature of the projects in question,” they pointed out.

If confirmed, Sai Pallavi’s collaboration with Nag Ashwin will mark another major milestone in her career, following her growing pan-India popularity. Meanwhile, fans will have to wait and watch whether Chamunda materializes before Ashwin dives fully into Kalki 2, the much-anticipated sequel to his epic sci-fi venture Kalki 2898 AD.
