Speculation around Tumbbad 2 has picked up pace as the sequel moves closer to production. Actor-producer Sohum Shah has partnered with Pen Studios for the much-awaited follow-up to the 2018 film Tumbbad.

The original film, directed by Rahi Anil Barve and later completed with additional direction by Adesh Prasad, earned critical acclaim for its atmospheric storytelling and unique blend of mythology and horror. Though it had a modest box office run initially, it gained a strong cult following over the years. Its re-release in 2024 introduced the film to a new section of viewers and revived interest in the franchise.

While official details about the sequel’s plot remain under wraps, industry discussions suggest that the makers are focusing on building a strong antagonist for the second installment. According to trade buzz, Akshaye Khanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are among the names being considered for the negative lead.

Both actors are known for portraying layered and intense characters, making them suitable contenders if the sequel aims to explore morally complex territory similar to the first film. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding casting so far.

Tumbbad 2 is expected to go on floors later this year. With Shah returning as both lead actor and producer under his banner Sohum Shah Films, the sequel is likely to continue exploring the dark, mythological world that defined the original, though more concrete updates are awaited.
