“Asrani sir used to bring a lot of positivity on set. He was a great man. It’s a personal loss for me. Very rarely do you meet people whose death affects you so much,” the filmmaker said.
Priyadarshan further revealed that Akshay Kumar has been deeply affected by Asrani’s passing. “Akshay called me twice. He said that he feels he’s in depression as he was working with Asrani sir for the past 40–45 days in two films,” he shared. The actor reportedly found immense value in Asrani’s guidance, both professionally and personally.
The veteran actor was not only a mentor but also a friend on set. Priyadarshan added that Asrani often gave Akshay advice and shared life lessons with co-actors like Rajpal Yadav, cautioning them about mistakes to avoid in their personal and professional lives.
Asrani’s death at the age of 84 has left a void in the film industry. Known for his impeccable comic timing and wisdom, he was a source of inspiration for generations of actors. Priyadarshan’s account highlights the personal and professional bond he shared with Asrani, and the deep impact the legendary actor had on those around him, including Akshay Kumar, who is reportedly struggling to come to terms with this loss. Asrani will be seen posthumously in two movies starring Akshay Kumar, Haiwaan and Bhooth Bangla, both directed by Priyadarshan.
