Karan Johar‘s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has enjoyed a wonderful feat for itself. In just a one week run so far where it has managed a total of 80.2 crore, it has gone past the lifetime collections of Baaghi (77 crore), Neerja (75.65 crore) and Kapoor & Sons (73.3 crore). Out of these three films, while Baaghi was an all-India entertainer, the other two primarily collected in multiplexes and that too over a period of 4-6 weeks. However, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, despite its niche appeal with multiplex audiences and primarily in urban India, has still managed a very good sum and that resonates the popularity of Karan Johar and his cast.
The next film in line is Fan (85 crore) and that total should be crossed today. After that, Housefull 3 (109 crore) would be surpassed too, most likely by the end of second week. That would bring the Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer in the Top-5 grossers of 2016. Other top grossers in the list are as below and they would pretty much stay intact at the position they are:
Sultan – 301.5 crore
M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story – 133.5 crore
Airlift – 129 crore
Rustom – 128 crore
Nonetheless, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is still looking at a healthy status ahead and what makes the Box Office journey of the film all the more notable is the fact that it has been a huge success in the overseas. That ensures that for Karan Johar and Fox, there is good moolah that has accumulated which would make them smile from ear to ear. As for the film’s cast, especially Ranbir Kapoor, this is a good global success that he would have pined for in order to conclude 2016 on a high.
