There are certain films where vibes are correct right from the beginning. Aanand L. Rai‘s Nil Battey Sannata is one such film. While the innovative campaign set the stage for the unveiling of the film’s First Look, the theatrical promo that followed made one sure that this is going to be a film with a difference. Now with the first song from the film, Maths Mein Dabba Gul, being out, one only looks forward to what’s in store.
The song has a rustic appeal to it but of the kind that doesn’t alienate its audience. Time and again one finds that ‘desi’ flavor of a film or a song turns out to be more of a liability than an asset. However, the kind of effort that the musical team puts here [Singers: Rohan Utpat & Aarti Shenai, Music: Rohan Vinayak, Lyrics: Nitesh Tiwari], one is further attracted to this directorial debut of Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari.
The film tells the story of a mother [Swara Bhaskar] who works as a housemaid and enrolls herself in the same class as her daughter [Ria Shukla] so that she can motivate her to study well. Now the song, Maths Mein Dabba Gul, shows the entire scenario in a fun manner as the escapades of the mother and the daughter in the classroom manages to bring on good smiles. While the song has a good pace and funny lyrics doing their part, it is the picturisation and the visuals that catch your attention. Especially noticeable is the manner in which Swara comes up with innovative means to memorize the formula.
In the times when concept based films are finding good attention and appreciation from the audience, it is good to see the kind of buzz that Nil Battey Sannata is managing to create. Aanand L. Rai has a knack for picking up subjects that are rooted to reality and presented quite entertainingly. If the journey so far taken by Nil Battey Sannata is any indication, this one too is on the right path.
The results would be known on 22nd April once Nil Battey Sannata, which is presented by Eros, releases all over.
