Aamir Khan Productions' Laapataa Ladies fails to make it to the Oscars
Aamir Khan Productions' Laapataa Ladies was chosen as India's official entry for the Oscars by our jury members. Like every year, Indian juries have erred yet again. AKP's Lagaan made it to the Oscars nominations in 2001, but this time they have failed to make it to the Oscars shortlist.
The shortlist for Oscars Best Film in the Foreign Language category is out, and Laapataa Ladies is not on the list, confirming that it's out of the Oscars race officially.
The Oscars 2025 shortlist for International Feature Film is as follows:
Brazil - I’m Still Here
Canada - Universal Language
Czech Republic - Waves
Denmark - The Girl with the Needle
France - Emilia Pérez
Germany - The Seed of the Sacred Fig
Iceland - Touch
Ireland - Kneecap
Italy - Vermiglio
Latvia - Flow
Norway - Armand
Palestine - From Ground Zero
Senegal - Dahomey
Thailand - How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies
United Kingdom - Santosh
Directed by Kiran Rao, Laapataa Ladies (English title - Lost Ladies) is a Hindi-language comedy-drama about two newly wedded brides who swap places during a train journey. The film was released in cinemas in March 2024 and emerged as a below-average grosser.
