Dilip Kumar, the biggest halo of Hindi cinebiz turned 88 on December 11, 2010. On his 88th b'day, G.N. Khalsa College, Matunga, in Mumbai, the alma mater of Dilip Kumar, decided to salute the genius of the legendary actor in a rather unique manner.
The current and former students of Khalsa College convened to come together and collect 88 bottles of blood, to be donated later to the blood bank of a Cancer hospital. Word has it that the youngest student of the college will present the veteran with a plaque distinguishing him as the ?patron alumnus' and also present him with college pictures at his Bandra residence in suburban Mumbai, since Dilip Kumar won't be able to make it to the college.
Reportedly, the programme will continue for the whole day. Kickstarting the proceedings will be an exhibition match, followed by the blood donation camp.
Ajit Singh, Principal of G. N. Khalsa College states in a tabloid quote, "Blood is by far the most precious gift that someone can give anyone. For a Khalsa member, the tradition has historic significance too. We hgave decided to make this day extra special for Dilipsaab by donating our very blood to honour his distinguished career."
Besides this, the College Hall will also be named after the great thespian. Gurvinder Singh Bawa, Chairman of Khalsa College states in a newspaper quote, "Dilip saab has acted in this very auditorium and he did a variety of plays in this college. It used to be many years ago, but it is still a matter of great pride for us."
