The soundtrack, composed by Salil Chowdhury with lyrics by Shailendra, remains timeless even today. The record remained unbeatable for 37 years untill it was broken by Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), when number of categories had been expanded.

Beyond its immediate success, Madhumati has left a lasting legacy. Its story of reincarnation and eternal love has inspired the climax of Farah Khan’s 2007 blockbuster Om Shanti Om, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.

Even today, the film enjoys a cult following and remains as Bimal Roy’s biggest hit ever.
