To keep her fans happy, actress Sunny Leone continues to dish out adult comedies at regular intervals and the latest to join this list is Mastizaade directed by Milap Zaveri. While actors Tusshar Kapoor and Vir Das star opposite the former adult film actress, Riteish Deshmukh too makes a cameo appearance in this film. Composers Meet Bros Anjjan are expected to belt out their signature chartbusters along with guest composers Amaal Mallik and Anand Raj Anand (who have contributed with one track apiece). With the producers Pritish Nandy Communications going all out to promote this film as an adult comedy, one should not be surprised if double entendres make an appearance in the lyrics (Manoj Muntashir, Kumaar and Anand Raj Anand). Since ‘masti' and entertainment is expected to be the running theme of the film, the soundtrack too should most probably be in line with the same. With such level set expectations, let's tune in to listen to this album!
When Mika Singh takes control of the microphone, one can expect a foot tapping and catchy number and that's exactly what one gets with the album opener, Rom Rom Romantic. This Amaal Mallik composition is totally in line with what one expects in an adult comedy replete with nonsensical lyrics (Manoj Muntashir) and addictive beats. Though the composer's brother, Arman Malik also shares the vocal credits, it is Mika who takes the cake with his exuberant singing accompanied of course, by his signature drawl. With a fetching hook and some attractive visuals, this one has already zoomed its way up on the popularity charts.
Composers Meet Bros Anjjan mark their entry into this soundtrack with Hor Nach which has been sung by Ritu Pathak. While the composers stick to the format of catchy beats and naughty lyrics (Kumaar) even voicing them alongside Pathak, the lady though steals the show with some energetic singing. Since our expectations were level set in advance, it is a futile attempt to try and find some meaning in Kumar's verses. Instead, one can take comfort in the fact that the song does what it is meant to do – satisfy the front benchers and other Sunny Leone.
Anand Raj Anand (Composition and Lyrics) contributes to the ‘masti' with another double entendre filled song Dekhega Raja which has been sung by Nakash Aziz and Neha Kakkar. The singers do a decent job with Kakkar especially taking the cake with her naughty singing. The common trait of having a catchy hook line is present even in this track with the Dekhega Raja Trailer ya Picture Dikha Doon line proving quite hummable. That apart, the song does not have anything extraordinary and is fun while it lasts.
Lyricist Kumaar uses the popular Sholay line Basanti In Kutton Ke Saamne Mat Naachna and gives it the Mastizaade twist by rewording it as Basanti In Kutton Ke Saamne Hi Naachna in the title track, Mastizaade Title. Except for successfully destroying our wonderful memories ofSholay's memorable dialogues, this track has nothing else to write about. Meet Bros Anjjan who have composed and sung this track have tried hard to give a retro feel to this track but end up giving the listeners a headache!
Composers Meet Bros Anjjan try to give a disco themed track with the final number, Kamina Hai Dil. Despite our very low level of expectations in the lyrical department, lyricist Kumaar still manages to shock us with his poor choice of words. The song is filled with such in-your-face sexual innuendoes that it is embarrassing! (Sample the hook line Ooa Ooa Ouch, Aaja On My Couch'!)
And it is all the more surprising that a singer like Benny Dayal has agreed to get behind the mike for this one. The only thing that I can say about this song is – ‘avoid it like plague'!
In conclusion, the soundtrack of Mastizaade turns out to be just as expected – full on masti and lots of double entendre, enough to satisfy the legions of Sunny Leone fans. If you are someone looking out for some soulful music, this album is surely not for you. But if you are just looking for some unabashed and unapologetic entertainment, then this album should fit the bill.
