The moment Ghoomar was unveiled by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and team, it was pretty much a given that yet again the filmmaker-composer had something exciting up his sleeves for the audience. No wonder, one waited with bated breath to check out how rest of the songs in Padmaavat, which has lyrics by AM Turaz, would play along.
Thankfully, it is all in the positive direction, something which is set quite effectively by Shreya Ghoshal sung 'Ghoomar'. The singer had first made a very good impression in Bhansali's Devdas a decade and a half ago and is sounding sweet as ever with added maturity in her voice further helping the cause. Along with singer Swaroop Khan, who also writes Rajasthani lyrics for 'Ghoomar', she enchants her audience all over again. The song has already gained huge popularity and with Deepika Padukone shining bright in the video as well, 'Ghoomar' is set to stay on for quite some time to come.
Another song that was unveiled quite some time back is 'Ek Dil Ek Jaan'. Shivam Pathak has been knocking the doors of Bollywood for a while now and he gets a major song in the form of 'Ek Dil Ek Jaan' which has romance written all over it. This one carries distinct Sanjay Leela Bhansali sensibilities by ways of music, lyrics and of course the composition. Though it isn't the kind of number that gains instant popularity, it does sound well due to inherent serenity that it carries.
Shivam Pathak and Shail Hada come together for 'Khalibali' which is pretty much in Sukhwinder Singh zone. One can expect Ranveer Singh bringing on quite some energy on display when seen on screen since 'Khalbali' is meant to demonstrate his passion when he finds himself in love. The song does carry a punch by means of core sound though one waits to see how it manages to gain popularity in near future.
Same is the case with 'Nainowale Ne' which does sound sweet when heard in the voice of Neeti Mohan. However, a track like this needs time to grow after repeated listening. Since the song has just been unveiled and the film's release is just a few hours away, it would all boil down to the long run that Padmaavat has in theaters. That said, this romantic song is written well by guest lyricists Siddharth-Garima and also boasts of a sweet composition by Bhansali.
As for those hunting for some traditional outing in Padmaavat, there is Richa Sharma and Shail Hada sung 'Holi' which is based on Manganiyars & Langa's folk song. This one is pretty different from traditional ‘holi’ songs that one has heard in Bollywood music and is basically an out and out Indian classical score that is set for a situational outing in the film.
On the other hand Arijit Singh's 'Binte Dil' is pure melody as it wins over your heart in the very first hearing. Even though this isn't the kind of a quintessential romantic number that one is used to hearing from Arijit Singh, there is a distinct touch that the singer does bring along in the way he goes about rendering it. For those who love their music to carry middle-east flavor, 'Binte Dil' is a good offering from Bhansali.
Padmaavat has a good mix of classy sound with a popular appeal that fits in well into the stage and narrative that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has set for the audience.
