Khallballi, produced by Azam Khan and directed by Ajay Chandhok, onetime assistant to David Dhawan, has the distinction of having 32 comedians. The film's music has been composed by Sajid Wajid, while the lyrics have been written by Jalees Sherwani and Shabbir Ahmed. The music has the potential to be hit the top of the charts, specially the title track. In all, there are some seven songs in the film's music album, which includes two remixes as well.
The first number on the album is the title track, ?Khallballi' which has been sung by Wajid and Neeraj Sridhar. This number has a remixed version as well. It is a high tempo, fun number, which combines racy beats and easy music, to create a number which is bond to top the charts. It is definitely one of those numbers whose appeal may well be enhanced by the manner in which it is presented on screen. Unfortunately, there is no big star behind this song. But despite the lack of star value, the song should do well on its own merit. It has a kind of racy simplicity which makes for extremely easy and pleasant hearing. However, the remixed version of this number kind of pales in comparison.
The second number in this album is called ?Zhala Menu Zhala' sung by Wajid. It is the quintessential ?tapori' number, which was a staple in most Hindi films at one point of time. But with most of the Hindi film protagonists being part of the privileged class these days, the days of the ordinary man on the street are quite gone, and hence, so has the tapori song. Well, the genre makes a comeback of sorts with Zhala Menu Zhala and has been sung with the right amount of abandon and has the same racy quality of the title track to make it a fairly passable number.
The third number on the album is ?Bhuri Bhuri,' which is sung by Neeraj Sridhar and Sunidhi Chauhan. It has a pleasant tune and the two vocalists do a good job with the number. It has a very contemporary feel to it, quite unlike Zhala Menu Zhala. Its remixed version is just as effective as the original with its pleasant romantic feel.
A quwali, ?Yeh Ishq Ishq Hai' makes it appearance as the fourth song on the album, which has been sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Shadab Sabri. The number stays true to its filmi genre and doesn't break any new ground. But on the whole, it makes for easy listening, without any recall value whatsoever.
The album comes to an end with the number ?Zari Di Kurtiyan' sung by Udit Narayan and Khadija Haider. It is a slightly nonsensical romantic number, with no great recall value to it. To its credit, however, the number does not grate on one's nerves.
The music of Khallballi Fun Unlimited makes for very pleasant hearing, but none of its songs have a catchy appeal, except for the title track, which stands head and shoulders above the rest of the numbers. SajidWajid's score fits the mood of the film, one could have expected better from them.
