In this day and age of innumerable songs being crammed into a CD, the music of Dasvidaniya, produced by One More Thought Entertainment and Lemontea Productions, comes as a surprise. The makers of the film have obviously decided to with quality over quantity. The film's album consists of just three songs, with one being remixed, to bring the number up to four. The music has been composed by none other than singer and composer Kailash Kher and the brothers, Naresh and Paresh Kamath, formerly of the rock band Bombay Black. Kailash has also written the lyrics. Actor Vinay Pathak will be essaying the lead in the movie, which bears testimony to his rise as an actor in Bollywood ranks. Today he is producing and acting in the film, which has been directed by Shashant Shah. The other members of the film's cast included Rajat Kapoor, Ranvir Shorey, Sarita Joshi, Purbi Joshi, Gaurav Gera, Suchitra Pillai, Sarita Joshi, and Suresh Menon among others.
The band of composers may have just scored three tracks in the film, but they definitely manage to leave an indelible impact on. In fact, for once, one is left craving for more. The first number, 'Muskurao,' has been sung by Sonu Nigam. The music of the number transports one to the sunny fields of some distant Meditarranean land. It is the accordion in the background which manifests that effect. Set against a retro tune, the effect is truly marvellous. Adding to the bewitching quality of the song are the vocals of Sonu Nigam. Needless to say, he does full justice to the melody. There is an instrumental version of the song as well which occurs later in the album.
The album's second number is called 'Alvida' sung by Kailash. The song sees a perfect fusion of the folk rock genres that has been the hallmark of the trio and their band Kailasa. The song is perfectly suited to Kailash's voice and he brings out the feelings inherent in the song. The song has a remixed version as well which sees Paresh and Naresh joining in with their voices. But their vocal support is more in the form of backup vocals. The prominent voice remains that of Kailash.
The most moving song of the album, however, remains the final number, 'Mumma' sung by Kailash. again. It is almost inevitable that the song will draw comparisons from Shankar Mahadevan's 'Meri Maa' from the film Taare Zameen Par. While both songs have the mother as their subject, they are written from a different perspective and both have been sung extremely well indeed. Kailash's 'Mumma' sings paens to the Mother in an extremely simple but touching tune. The song's greatness lies in its simplicity. .
The trio had composed music earlier for the film Pranali, which released a few months ago. But somehow that music never caught on even though the composers did a competent job. But one feels that with Dasvidaniya, the trio will definitely get noticed. Quality has definitely prevailed over quantity.
