Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana Music Review: Experimental And Pushes Boundaries

Album begins with Kiklikalirdi, a Punjabi track rendered by Amit Trivedi himself with Pinky Maidasani and Yo Yo Honey Singh. Track stands out due to unusual voices of Pinky and Honey Singh who are simply fabulous. There is also a 'Punjabi version' of the same track which is just apt to conclude the movie with end titles.

 

Motorwada is up next which is full of experimentation. A listener would have to take time to settle down with this one. Amit Trivedi with Tochi Raina of Pardesi [Dev D] fame siogs this one and truly draws you in the Khurana world. Lyrics are sarcastic with a lot of dark humour and fun elements, such as Jo motorwade Tom and Jerry dekhe rove ji' or Pathey ghee khawey asli toh baat kar, shit chiriya ki warna ja saaf kar.

 

Shahid Mallya and Harshdeep Kaur introduce the title track Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana. It's a Punjabi folk based track composed as a romantic duet. A closer hearing will remind one of Mein Maike Chali Jaoongi from Bobby. This one just seems a sweeter version of the same. It's a theme-based track that would take the story further and fit well in the movie. Later, Tapas Roy delivers a theme track around the same song and it turns out to be melody at its best from Amit's School of Music..

 

Harshdeep Kaur is the new name to reckon with Punjabi Bollywood songs. After Heer in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, she experiments with Luni Hasi here. One can't be sure if anyone can sing Tere Uthe Hai Mar Java Gud Khake with so much conviction. There is a male version as well by Devender Singh of the IndianIdol fame. His young voice surprises a listener as he conveys the emotions effortlessly and accentuates the track with his simplistic effort. Though both versions might not find too many takers due to the strong vernacular lyrics, the composition is fun to listen to and grows on you.

 

Makhan Malai is the next track rendered by Dilbahar and Renu Jagotra. It's a cliched duet, which proves one upmanship between a girl and a boy in Punjabi folk style. Lyrics are common place as well and overall the track does not impress much while falling in the average trap.

 

Labh Janjua, the Punjabi Bhangra/Hip Hop singer of Baari Barse fame, makes an entry with Farukha Baadi. Song begins with a Punjabi female chorus which sets the tone and after that Labh takes over. It is the lyrics and the treatment of the song which is different and attracts the listener. This one has the fun element of Gangs Of Wasseypur songs and takes you back to the same world.

 

For quite some time now, music directors like Amit Trivedi and Sneha Khanwalkar have been introducing a listener to some experimental sounds. Though on a creative level the experiment might be excellent, it is not necessary that this would also lead to a commercial hit. Still, Amit Trivedi is a name to watch out for in the music world. He is loaded with talent and is a refreshing change in the world where norms were already drawn. He is someone who is consistently pushing boundaries and in that context, the music of Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana is just perfect.
