Dhadak Music Review: Romantic Soundtrack Of The Season By Ajay, Atul And Amitabh

Director Shashank Khaitan has made a couple of films with producer Karan Johar, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania, and both films have boasted of good chartbusters. However it is a different world that he is exploring with Dhadak, remake of Marathi blockbuster Sairat. Hence, there is a different sound too in the film's music as Ajay-Atul come together with lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya. Even though there are just four songs in the album, each one of them makes an impression.
As you hear the voice of Ajay Gogavale, you also realize that he is the core singer for each of the four songs in the soundtrack. That is also a good thing because in a good popular romantic album that marks the Bollywood debut of two youngsters, certain consistency helps. Remember Udit Narayan in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, S.P. Balasubramaniam in Maine Pyaar Kiya or Kumar Sanu in Aashiqui?
This is what makes Dhadak special too since right from the title song Dhadak, you like what you hear, what with Ajay coming together with Shreya Ghoshal to deliver a melodious number. Same is the case with Pehli Baar as well where Ajay goes solo and comes up with a song that acts like a slow burner. At first though you may not relate to the tune but as you hear it three to four times, you are totally hooked on.
This is the reason why when Ajay-Atul sung dance number Zingaat comes, it somewhat breaks the flow as you are enjoying the melody of Dhadak till then. Yes, agreed that the song was a huge chartbuster in Marathi and it has a good 'desi' dance feel to it as well. Moreover, it could well make an impression in the narrative of the film as well due to its overall happy feel. However, with Dhadak primarily boasting of melodies, you would have rather wanted more of that in the soundtrack.
No wonder, when Ajay goes solo again for Vaara Re, you like what you hear as the mood created is on the same lines as the romantic numbers that you had heard right at the beginning. Each of the three love songs has a grand feel to it which warrants that the best effect comes when heard and experienced in a theater. Moreover, these songs have a lyrical quality to them as well which further make them special.
Do play on Dhadak in loom. It is truly a romantic soundtrack of the season by Ajay, Atul and Amitabh.
