Let me come straight to the point. Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is one of the rare disappointing tracks by composer Amit Trivedi and lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya. Ok, so not all their songs emerge as chartbusters in any ways. However, some get critically acclaimed, some become popular and some do well as situational numbers. In case of the four songs that have been put together for Bhavesh Joshi Superhero though, one can't really place them in any of these categories though since there isn't much to choose here.
Disappointment sets in right at the beginning when Babu Haabi and Naezy pair up as singers/rappers as well as lyricists (with support from Anurag Kashyap) for Hum Hain Insaaf. There is a music video of the song which is already out and while that by itself didn't make much of an impression, it is understandable since the song as a whole is hardly inspiring. It tries to be all cool and funky but just doesn't work at all.
As for Chavanprash, one wonders how did Arjun Kapoor agree to actually come on board for this one. Agreed that he is cousin brother of Arjun Kapoor but still he could have demanded for a better song. Here, the song is downright avoidable as it reminds one of those poor numbers that wouldn't have worked even in those 90s movies starring Govinda. Right from lyrics to music to singing by Divya Kumar, Pragati Joshi and Arohi Mhatre, nothing works here.
A couple of songs that follow do have some element of Amit Trivedi in there. Firstly, the composer brings himself on board as a singer for Tafreeh. It is about a bunch of friends coming together for a common mission and while the song may just about go reasonably well in the context of the film, you can't really expect to play this one on loop beyond a couple of times. Just about average.
On the other hand Papon sung Qasam Kha Li turns out to be a boring piece of music that is literally a drag for its playing time. One wonders why the makers agreed to have such an underwhelming piece of music in this soundtrack that could have done better with at least some sort of energy in there.
As stated earlier, disappointing. Period.
Our picks: Tafreeh
