Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior depicts the epic battle of Sinhagadh, from the pages of history, where Ajay Devgn plays the glorious character of Tanhaji Malusare, who was the military commander of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who fought against the Mughals in the battle. The film shows the valour of the Marathas in all its glorious pride.
Saif Ali Khan is playing the antagonist, Udaybhan Rathodh, the fortkeeper under Jai Singh, who was a Mughal Army Chief, and Kajol is seen in the role of Savitribai, Tanhaji’s doting wife.
How the Marathas under the leadership of Tanhaji annexed the Kondana fort by plotting a surgical strike forms the climax.
Ajay Devgn in his 100th film has delivered one of his career's best performance, where the actor's prowess to deliver emotions through his expressive eyes, brings Tanhaji alive, but Saif Ali Khan with his stellar performance as the wicked beast Udaybhan Rathod steals the show, certainly destined to take many trophies back home this year, with his outstanding portrayal. Saif's madness in portraying the character of Udaybhan and his wicked smile might remind you of Khilji, but this villain has a sparkling charm of his own.
The film marks the eventful return of Ajay's pairing with Saif, which both the actors with their impactful performances have again made memorable.
With Tanhaji the much awaited pairing of the real life couple Ajay and Kajol also makes a comeback on the silver screens, with the honest real life chemistry of the duo working effortlessly. Kajol fits in perfectly as the strong Maratha wife, whose glory lies in her husband's win at the battlefield. Kajol with her fluent Marathi accent delivers an honest performance with her character.
Sharad Kelkar plays the majestic Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and does full justice to the little screen space that he has. The strong emotional bond between Chatrapati and his right hand is warm and personal.
But what make this film a true winner is its outstandingly filmed climax, which doubles its impact with the terrific performances by Saif & Ajay, leaving you spellbound. Watch this film if only to witness this spectacular climax!
Few songs in the first half of the film might sound forced, but the background score all through the two hours screen time of the film just adds to the impactful screenplay of the film and its cinematic experience, which will most definitely leave you with goosebumps. The roaring score in the blazing fighting sequences and ignited battlefield will leave a lingering impact of the glorious epic battle in the audience's hearts.
What makes this film an absolute visual cinematic treat, is its high end VFX and CGI work, which makes this film a must watch in 3D.
Director Om Raut in his directorial debut has managed to deliver a masterpiece which is all set to roar at the box office.
