Tadap is an official Hindi remake of Telugu romantic action drama RX 100 (2018) and just like the original, it fulfills all the demands of this mix-genre. Hollywood invented 'Femme Fatale' formula in the 1930s and expanded it further with many crime noirs in 1940s and 1950s. At the same time, Indian cinema saw the first ever cinematic adoption of the Bengali novel Devdas in 1935, and we saw many remakes with the same Devdas Theory over the years. These two formulas are like two different corners of the love-story genre, one is about losing love and suffering after that, and the other one is about cheating. RX 100 was a mix of these two classic formulas and Tadap is no different. Tadap has come at the right time because our Hindi audience has seen both the patterns individually, but not a mix-up. Milan Luthria provides that well shaken juice to the audience and yes it's drinkable.Set in beautiful locations of Mussoorie, Tadap tells a story of simple and naive Ishana who falls in love with foreign returned Ramisa. But destiny plans something terrible and bad for them which also unfolds big surprises in the climax. Ishana's madness for Ramisa converts him into an aggressive lover which causes a lot of harm to her father. Tadap follows his passionate love story in an action filled ride with lots of kisses, romance and intimacy that will please the youth audience, especially couples.
Ahan Shetty has struck Gold in his debut. In his very first film, he gets a challenging role to play and he gives full justice to it. He plays two different characters - contradictory to each other, and he excels getting both right. Tara Sutaria's glam appeal has been used very smartly by Luthria. At first, she makes you go crazy for her with those stunning looks and sex appeal and then she gives you a shock, from which, you just can't recover in a moment. Wherever there is laughter in Tadap, it belongs to Saurabh Shukla. His dialogue baazi will remind you of that masala oriented cinema of the 80s. Kumud Mishra and Sumit Gulati are immensely honest with whatever scenes they have got in the film.
The film is a very pacy affair and yet we get to see four songs during those two hours. Pritam's music album has something for everyone. All four songs are different in nature, and set the mood and tone right for the situations. Bhi Jyada, Siva Jag Mein, Mera Hogaya Hai and Ishq Na all songs are just superb. Irshad Kamil's lyrics give it a required meaning. The background score of John Eduri works fine on several occasions. The cinematography captures beautiful locations that are simply eye pleasing.
Milan Luthria provides a terrific role to debutant Ahan Shetty in this youth-oriented dilema. On the other side, he deals with Tara's beauty honestly by not making it look vulgar. RX 100 had that thing in the beginning whereas Tadap removes any such stuff, only to replace it with intimate romance. There are few things where Milan could have bettered the original, but he plays safe. Tadap will find praise from the youth audience but may not get such appreciation from the Family audience, just like Kabir Singh. And it was a big Hit, you know. As a whole, the steadfast loyalty towards the main context makes Tadap an engaging and enjoyable romantic action drama and NGE will be looking to score another successful outing at the box office.
