The Resident Evil franchise has never pleased Critics except for the first film in 2002, which received fairly good reviews. But the fans have always enjoyed eating this monstrous flesh despite negative reception to the last few films in the resident evil series. The latest film in the series is Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, adopted from the stories of the first and second games by Capcom, and serves as a faithful reboot. Johannes Roberts' directorial has nothing special for the critics but the die-hard fans of Resident Evil games are gonna enjoy it just the same way they have always done. Welcome To Raccoon City is loyal to its identity and takes you on another terrifying night-out with jittering horrors and horrifying zombies.Raccoon City is now a dying midwestern town and the wasteland unleashes Evils that attack the people. The film runs with real-time effects and gives updated time slots on how things are moving forward. At the same, it continues relationship drama and struggle for survival against the monsters. A small group of survivors works together to uncover the truth behind the umbrella and tries to make it through the night. After a pacy ride of action and horror, there is a surprise in the end-credit scene, so don't leave your seats.
Johannes Roberts has brought a good cast together to fill in the life in those popular game characters. The film sees Kaya Scodelario, Hannah John-Kame, Robbie Amell, Tom Hopper, Avan Jogia, Donal Logue and Neal McDonough battling out the zombies and with several ups and downs, the overall result is satisfactory. Scordelario plays a very powerful character of Claire Redfield and her attitude suits it perfectly. The supporting cast also includes many humans that are turned into zombies and whatever screams they give you on screens, are decently presented.
Resident Evil : Welcome To Raccoon City is backed by a strong VFX team. Additionally, Maxime Alexandre's cinematography provides several frightening frames. With the constant screams and loud background score, this night gets even more scary but that's what we enjoy the most about this franchise, right? One might miss the thrill which original Paul Anderson's film had years ago, but then one should feel free to accept new versions too. Johannes Robert keeps the fundamental values alive despite rebooted restrictions and his vision of solving answers in the upcoming films.
Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City may not please critics, but it is not as bad as few of those previous films we saw in the series. Needless to say that the commercial success of the franchise was never dependent on critics' choice, because the loyal fan base has supported them and that certain age-group is gonna eat this flesh yet again. Overall, Welcome To Raccoon City is another haunting night in the Resident Evil Universe with even more dangerous creatures and kick-ass fights given by the opponent humans.
