Mardaani 2 Movie Review: Gripping And Gritty
Rani Mukerji is back as Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani 2 and the second edition of the hit franchise is as impressive as the original.[caption id="attachment_719162" align="aligncenter" width="950"] mardaani 2[/caption]
Shivani Shivaji Roy is a tough cop and this time she is facing a cold, egoistic and merciless villain, who has no empathy towards his victims. He not only rapes women, but also kills them brutally to show them 'their place'.
When Shivani publicly declares that she would catch the rapist and calls him ‘dedh shana’ while interacting with the media, it hurts the villain’s ego immensely and the war becomes personal. Then starts a cat-and-mouse game between the two and how Shivani nabs the antagonist forms the rest of the plot.
Rani Mukerji is a fantastic actress and she has once again delivered a power-packed performance. She is playing a no-nonsense cop, who means business and is very convincing in her role. Tough look suits her and the interview that she gives to a news channel, in one of the sequences, is soul-stirring. Rani Mukerji is a one-woman army and she impresses yet again with her awe-inspiring acting skills.
Vishal Jethwa has played the antagonist and though this is his debut film, he performs like a seasoned actor. You love to hate him and he has held his own against an actor as incredible as Rani. The rest of the cast too is good.
Screenplay is gripping and this crime drama keeps you at the edge of your seat all through its 1 hour 46 minutes run time. The narrative is smooth and the film keeps you hooked right till the end.
Gopi Puthran has shot the film very realistically. The story of this gritty drama is powerful, dialogues are dumdaar, cinematography is excellent and the background score is also nice. The only thing that I had a problem with was that everything happens too easily and Rani relies more on her hunch and logic rather than empirical evidence to find the criminal.
The crime scenes of the movie will send a chill down your spine. The movie has released at an apt time, when crime against women have breached all previous records. The film talks about gender discrimination and every woman will to relate to it.
Mardaani 2 is a fantabulous film, which deserves the audiences love and support.
