The wait is finally over as Sushant Singh Rajput’s last movie Dil Bechara has finally premiered on Hotstar and believe us, it is not an easy film to watch.publive-image

The film is an adaptation of John Green’s bestselling novel The Fault in Our Stars. Kizzy is suffering from thyroid cancer and her oxygen cylinder, whom she has named Pushpender, is her constant companion. Kizzy often visits funerals of strangers to understand how her parents would feel after her demise.

However, things change completely for Kizzy as Immanuel Rajkumar Junior aka Manny enters her gloomy life. Manny is a cancer patient too however, he believes in living his life king size. He wins everyone’s heart with his charm and enthusiasm and what happens when these two poles apart people meet forms the rest of the plot.publive-image

Sushant is playing Manny and he is terrific in his role. He is playing a young cheeky boy, who wants to enjoy every moment of his life. The energetic and enthusiastic Manny gets on your nerves initially but eventually you fall in love with him. Sushant is charming in the movie and he is fantastic in the climax. I would especially like to mention the theater scene as he is unbelievably good in it. While watching the movie you can't help but wonder why he kissed goodbye to such a promising life. He has left a huge void!

Sanjana Sanghi has marked her Bollywood debut with the film and is outstanding as Kizzy. She has held her own against SSR and their pairing is also very refreshing. Saif Ali Khan also has a cameo appearance and his character is very annoying. The rest of the supporting cast is good.publive-image

While the film is good in the acting department, the script and screenplay are not up to the mark. The film is not as heartbreaking as the original: it lacks depth and we can blame the writers for it. The only thing heartbreaking in this movie is Sushant’s presence.

Mukesh Chhabra has marked his directorial debut with the film and he has done a decent job. AR Rahman has composed the music and has woven magic once again. Dialogues are fine and cinematography is good.publive-image

With his last movie, Sushant has taught us how to live. He has a dialogue in which he says, “I dream big lekin adhoora chhod deta hoon” and this one line hits you hard.

As a tribute to the late actor we won’t be giving ratings to this movie.
