Vidya Balan starrer Kahaani (2012) was one of the finest bollywood thrillers in the last decade. The film had an impactful character of Bob Biswas and the same filmmaker has now brought us a full-fledged thriller based on that character. Sujoy Ghosh who directed Kahaani serves this spin-off Bob Biswas as a producer and seems like that the film really misses him as a director. Sujoy is undoubtedly one of the best directors in the thriller genre, maybe that's where this film struggles as his writing and screenplay offers a 'typical Sujoy Ghosh dish' and then debutant Diya Annapurna Ghosh cooks a different food of her own. Bob Biswas is no match to Kahaani, not by far. However, it can be viewed as an honest attempt powered by good performances and decent entertaining values. publive-image Bob Biswas is all about Bob Biswas's story with very little space for others. We meet a different Bob here, who has lost his memory. But he is trying to remember things from his side. There are two other sides, one is his family who loves him and supports him and the other side is his baddie gang, who want him to get back to work. The rest of the story unfolds some secrets which cannot be spoiled here but yes, one clue can be given which is quite open from the trailer itself that Bob is struggling to keep both the sides happy from his end. That part is really entertaining. He tries to keep his image clean in front of his family and at the same time he is a one hell of a Killer! It's funny, surprisingly. As we know thrillers don't really offer such light moments and then Bob Biswas makes a pretty much humorous show out there. It's commendable.publive-imagePerformance wise, Bob Biswas heavily rides on Abhishek Bachchan's shoulders. It was expected because he was playing the lead character who eats up 70% of runtime but the screenplay doesn't really give anybody else a chance to leave a strong impact. Abhishek's honest performance is surely praiseworthy with an equal praise to flawless Paran Bandhopadhyay. Chitrangada Singh plays Bob's wife and has got enough scenes where she showcases her glam as well as her acting. The rest of the cast is perfectly alright with whatever scenes they have got. Tina Desai arrives too late to get noticed, but yes she looks nice towards the end.publive-imageOTT content is getting better and better everyday with different kinds of experiments and methods. Bob Biswas could have been much better with different techniques. The technical aspects of the film aren't bad, but surely nothing impressive either. The film is made with very basic vision and because it was coming with a heavy burden of Kahaani, the other side of the story never comes to the light. Whether it is background score or cinematography, you will see retrospective methods from Kahaani time. Here, it should have updated itself to look advanced but sadly misses the opportunity.publive-imageTalking about the direction of Diya Annapurna Ghosh, it's nothing bad. It's fairly decent with the kind of paperwork she has received from the writer and screenwriter. Bob Biswas is her virtuous vision and nobody can disagree with it. The film has its own strengths where Diya's effective presentation leaves you gushing praise, but there are other things where she could have improvised the narrative. Wherever there is thrill missing, there is something else to entertain you. Overall, Bob Biswas brings an interesting fictional on screen with all his basic features that can be enjoyed by die-hard fans of crime-thriller genre.publive-imageRATING - 2.5/5*
