Umar is a tale of courage and fighting spirit omnipresent with the older folks. Prem Chopra, Satish Kaushik and Kader Khan play the roles of senior citizens living in London, who have given their lifetime earnings to their sons. Now their sons and daughter-in-laws make them work like domestic servants and mistreat them. On the other hand you have Jimmy Shergill who plays an orphan, who has come to study in London on a scholarship and he is someone who is very respectful to the elders whenever he meets them. Emily Clark is the glamorous owner of a nightclub who tries to seduce Jimmy, but he refuses her advances, as he is in love with Shehnaz Treasurywala. Shehnaz plays the daughter of millionaire Shakti Kapoor and Dalip Tahil is a politician whose son is after Shehnaz.
Emily Clark is found murdered, and Jimmy is implicated and arrested by the police on charge of the murder. Prem Chopra, Kader Khan and Satish Kaushik are convinced that Jimmy is innocent and they help him to escape, and give him shelter. When their families come to know about it, they are thrown out. They are on the run with Jimmy and their mission now is to escape from the police and catch the killer!
Where the production values are very good, cinematographer Aatish Parmar too does a great job. Performance-wise, the three men club of Prem Chopra, Kadar Khan and Satish Kaushik are the highlight of the film. Where Prem Chopra brings out his sensitive side, Kadar Khan comes across natural and Satish Kaushik scores with his typical simple portrayal. Jimmy Shergill, Shehnaz Treasurywala, Shakti Kapoor and Dalip Tahil all provide able support. As the director, Karan Razdan shows his grasp over the medium.
