Way back in 2006, Ananth Mahadevan had directed Aksar, a thriller starring Emraan Hashmi, Udita Goswami and Dino Morea about a wealthy man hiring his wife’s former lover to seduce her so that he can file for divorce and at the time, the film had been a decent hit. Years later, Mahadevan is back with Aksar 2, but does the sequel work? Read on…
The sequel revolves around Sheena Roy (Zareen Khan), who is employed as a governess by investment banker Patrick Sharma (Gautam Rode) for his client Dolly Khambatta (Lilette Dubey), an eccentric spinster.
When Patrick starts pressurizing Sheena for sexual favours, she teams up with her lover Ricky (Abhinav Shukla) to set a plan in motion that ends up being disastrous for everyone concerned, including Khambatta, her ostensibly loyal manservant Bachchan Singh (Mohit Madan) and Patrick. How Sheena manages to do this is what the film is all about.
When it comes to performances, let me be brutally honest and say that mediocre is the operative word. Every actor, with the exception of Sreesanth, has given an under average performance while Sreesanth comes across as a pleasant surprise with his restrained performance.
As for the film itself, though the first half seems promising, it starts sliding downhill and the poor writing, the mediocre performances and the weak dialogues, add to the downfall. If you remember, the prequel even had good songs and the sequel doesn’t even have that, which is another dampener. Also, the film is so full of twists and turns at every point that there are times when you wonder as to what exactly is going on and who is double-crossing who. The only good thing that can be said about the film is that it has some pretty locations and the cinematography is not bad.
However, that cannot be the only reason to watch this film and if you ask me, you would be better off skipping this one…
