Why Nishabd? What made you take on this project?
I think the answer for that is why not Nishabd? Because it’s an interesting story. I am just kind of bored with the predictable love stories of a boy meets a girl and they sing songs and all that. I thought it would be interesting to see certain aspects of a love story probably which happens but people don’t think it right to happen but it still happens, So I thought to try and capture that kind of an emotion would be challenging that’s why I wanted to make Nishabd.
Do you think the Indian audiences are ready for Nishabd?
Obviously if I think they are not ready for Nishabd, I would be stupid to make it. So obviously I think they are ready, and they have always been ready ever since an old man wanted to be in love with a young girl even much before cinema was invented.
What was different about making Nishabd?
The difference I think is in the basic concept of the story. To my knowledge I think this kind of an attempt on this kind of a subject has not been made before.
What do you think would make people go to cinemas to watch Nishabd?,/b>
If I know what would make people come to the theater, I wouldn’t have made flops before. So, I just make what I feel like making and they will come if they feel like.
Your career has been ear marked with different cinema. Is this a personality extension or this is just how you make films?
Movies eventually is about your personality traits, whether you talk about fear or the will or the desire or any kind of emotion ? every one of these are inherent in every human being. So when you pick up one specific thing, it becomes a genre film. Specific character, specific incident that can spark it of, it becomes a different thing.
How did Jiah happen to Nishabd?
From the very beginning I wanted a new girl which was my first reaction because somebody is coming into Amitabh Bachchan’s life and I thought even if a little known actress would come with a certain baggage which I thought here to be an opportunity to create and design a character which I thought would make a very specific impression on Mr. Bachchan’s character. So as long as, a new girl’s decision was made. After that ? Jiah I met her a couple of months or so before we were casting for Nishabd. And I thought that she had the ideal body language and she was almost like made for the part ? things just fell together.
What are the moral issues Nishabd will raise?
I don’t believe in morality. I am an immoral person. So I should be the last one to talk about the morality of Nishabd.
Tell us about the songs of Nishabd.
I think Rozana’s idea was Vishal Bharadwaj and Take Lite’s idea was Jiah Khan’s. I had nothing to do with either of the songs.
