Tanu and Manu are back, and this time they are promising a lot more fun. Now that’s something Krishika Lulla was looking forward to as well once Aanand L. Rai dropped more than just a hint of coming up with a sequel to Tanu Weds Manu. Though it was Raanjhanaa with which the producer and the director collaborated first, it was a given that Tanu Weds Manu Returns would be happening for sure. In the four years gone by, while Kangana Ranaut has soared by leaps and bound, Madhavan too has picked the film carefully as the one with which he breaks the sabbatical. Overall, a happy scenario for Krishika. Over to her.
For someone who is known for being hands-on involved in the making of her films, Tanu Weds Manu Returns seems like a passion project for you, right?
Yes. When I met Aanand initially for Tanu Weds Manu Returns (TWMR), I loved the concept. At that time Raanjhanaa was developing and since that too was such a beautiful script, I thought that I had to make both the films. So we made Raanjhanaa first and then waited for the new journey of Tanu and Manu to begin. Guess we would know where they would reach in a week’s time from now (smiles).
What are the kind of suggestions that you made for the film’s development?
Usually I am involved in the scripts of my films and I enjoy every bit of their development. Aanand as a filmmaker and Himanshu (Sharma) as a writer are brilliant. When they narrated TWMR to me, there was absolutely nothing to change or make better. Everything was just falling in place beautifully. I enjoyed every moment of the film’s making. It is very rare that a film comes out as per the script. This one was just perfect.
Guess this is one of those rare films that has maintained the ethos of the first in the series?
Exactly. You must have seen a lot of films like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge where a romantic story gets a happy ending. What happens after that is something you want to know. This is the spirit of TWMR as it starts four years after Tanu and Manu get married. You get to see where they are today, what has happened in their lives and the story continues from there. In the sequel, we have had the same people, locations and technicians roped in. It is such a beautiful comeback theme for all. It has been an amazing nostalgic journey.
Since she is playing a double role in the film, how does the entire plotline work this time around?
Obviously what you have seen so far is just a teaser; there is a lot more to see in Dattu (the other Kangna) and Tanu. Audiences have loved the trailer and the movie is so much better. No one else but Kangana could have played the double role. When you watch the film, you would know why.
How does the feeling if love work in the film, since it is about exploring love by falling in love all over again?
As is the message in our film, sometimes you need to have Part Two to fall in love again. That’s why we have made the sequel to explain that in anyone’s life, tu tu main main toh hoti hi rehti hai. Despite that, how it can be possible to maintain sanctity of relationship between husband and wife. Yes, sometimes you feel lost somewhere, but then true love is always revived.
