Ram Gopal Varma is back, and how. His Veerappan is making news for all the reason, and soon enough he would be kick-starting the shoot of Sarkaar 3 with Amitabh Bachchan. We catch up with the filmmaker.
You were away for more than two years since the release of Satya 2. I guess sometimes taking a pause and then starting afresh works, isn’t it?
I don’t think it’s about a pause but it’s about changing the situations and the people around you which will automatically force you to rejuvenate yourself.
Also, you sold your current office, set up base in Hyderabad, only to return in style with a spanky new office. That is as filmy a comeback as one expects, right?
It’s not true that I sold my previous office. It was a rented place which I vacated as I was going for a while to Hyderabad.
Meanwhile in Hyderabad, you were on a filmmaking spree with 5-6 films that you worked on. What was the strategy behind that?
Not true either. I just made 3 films in two years which is not much by my standard.
Some of them didn’t even release though beyond the promos? What’s happening on that? Not true again. Only one is pending release which is happening in August.
In Bollywood though, did you continue to keep your connections in place or was it a state of complete disconnect for you?
I connect to who I need to connect with.
In Sarkaar 3, other than Amitabh Bachchan, who else is expected in there?
All of that is still being finalized.
There were talks of film being a prequel of Sarkaar. Is that the case or the story moves on beyond Abhishek’s death?
That’s not true.
On a personal note Ramu, what was the roller coaster ride that you went through in last few years? You seemed to have cut yourself off from Mumbai.
I live by myself irrespective of where I live so the difference was not as much. But like I said, a change in people and situations around makes a difference.
