Ajay Devgn On Maintaining His Diwali Record Intact

Box office run of Son of Sardaar would more or less come to a close this weekend as Khiladi 786 takes over all the single screens. Still, the Ajay Devgn starrer has done the job and netted over 100 crores just in India, hence turning out to be his second film in a row to do so this year (after Bol Bachchan).
While the results have been satisfactory for those associated with the film, a section of audience did feel that while the first half of the film was a complete riot, the second half could have done better with some more humorous moments incorporated as well.
"But then we did want an intensity factor to come in as well", immediately says Ajay, "In fact we could sense the reactions during the special screenings itself and were more than content. Whoever saw the film said that the first half was hilarious while in the second half there was drama fitting in. You know the kind which is high intensity emotional drama that excites you and bring you to the edge of the seat. This was pretty much in synch with the kind of expectations that we had when Ashwni Dhir brought together the script."
This can be evidenced from the manner in which Son of Sardaar was mounted when it was launched more than a year back. While there was a heavy weight roped in the form of Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha was expected to continue her lucky streak with this film as well. With a largely outdoor shoot and hundreds of supporting/junior actors occupying practically each and every frame of the film, Son of Sardaar turned out to be one of the most lavish affairs with Ajay Devgn in the lead.
One wonders whether this was always a plan or was there a gradual enhancement in plans as the film started looking bigger and better.
"To be honest, it was always planned this way. Lekin phir hota yun hai ki kuch cheezen bass bante bante ho jaati hain. When I read the script first, I could sense that the film required a huge scale for itself. That’s the way it was planned because when you offer entertainment on Diwali, it has to be larger than life", smiles Ajay.
Well, it is worthy acknowledging that after Golmaal Returns, All The Best and Golmaal 3, Ajay’s Diwali record has continued to stay intact with Son of Sardaar as well. Though it is Krrish 3 which would be arriving on Diwali next year (and hence no film, whether big or small, can be expected to arrive on the same date), all eyes would be on Diwali 2014 when Ajay is expected to return with Rohit Shetty for yet another festive bonanza.
