Verma Malik Profile
Verma Malik, born on 13 April 1935 in Ferozepur, Pakistan, started his career in writing and penning lyrics for bhajans and often sang them too. Verma, who was an active freedom fighter during the period when the British ruled, also wrote patriotic songs. After the partition, Verma moved to India and with the help of his friend Hansraj Behl, who was a music director, started writing songs for Punjabi films. His first break came when he wrote the song 'Ek Taara Bole' for the film Yaadgar (1970) which became immensely popular then. Verma never looked back after that and went ahead to create some great lyrics for films like Saawan Bhadon (1970), Roti Kapda Makaan (1974), Victoria No 203 (1972), Nagin (1976) to name a few. Verma breathed last on 15 March 2009 and passed away peacefully at his residence in Mumbai. He was 84.
