Director producer Surinder Kapoor enriched the Indian film Industry by his sheer hard work and talent. Kapoor was born on 23 December 1925. He started his career in the film industry as a secretary to yesteryear actress Geeta Bali. But he wanted to delve into the field of filmmaking and in 1951 he joined K. Asif as an assistant director and started work on 'Mughal-E-Azam'. He ventured into production with 'Tarzan Comes to Delhi' in 1965.
After 'Tarzan Comes to Delhi' he produced many movies like 'Ek Shriman Ek Shrimati' (1969), 'Shehzada' (1972), 'Ponga Pandit' (1975), 'Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan' (1978), 'Hum Paanch'(1981), 'Woh Saat Din' (1983), 'Thanedaarni' (1994), 'Loafer' (1996), 'Judaai' (1997), 'Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai' (2000), 'Pukar' (2000), 'Bhooka Sher' (2001) and 'No Entry' (2005). 'Bhooka Sher' was not only produced but also directed by Surinder Kapoor.
Surinder Kapoor married Nirmal and the couple had four children, three sons and one daughter. His eldest son Boney Kapoor is a film producer while his other two sons Anil and Sanjay are both actors and producers. His daughter, Reena, is married to Sandeep Marwah of Marwah Films and Video Studios.
Surinder was also the President of Film and Television Producers Guild of India from 1995 to 2001. Dada Saheb Phalke Academy honoured the veteran producer with L.V. Prasad Phalke Award in 2009. On September 24, 2011, the 84-year-old breathed his last as he succumbed to a fatal cardiac arrest.
