What is a third generation Doon School alum, a graduate of the prestigious St. Stephen’s, a lawyer and an ex-bureaucrat doing on the sets of Love BreakUps Zindagi?
Well, the answer is simple: he is just following his heart! It was at Doon School that Satyadeep discovered the charm of the stage and it continued at St. Stephen’s where he spent more time in rehearsals and less in the classrooms. However, coming from family of civil servants, it seemed destined that he would apply for the entrance exam to the civil service. He made it as a bureaucrat on his second attempt (by which time he had already graduated from law school and done time as a corporate lawyer) but realized soon enough that it was not his calling. Nor, as he came to realize some years later was being a corporate lawyer.
So, in 2008, Satyadeep left his beloved Delhi (and its proximity to his even more beloved mountains) and moved to Mumbai to pursue his passion. Before he even set foot in Mumbai though he decided to divest himself of not just the trappings of the law profession but also its lifestyle. He put himself through a regimen of yoga, weight training and diet for months, and emerged on the other side literally a new Satyadeep.
In just the two years that he has been in Mumbai, Satyadeep has worked in three feature films with well known production houses. While Turning 30 (Prakash Jha Productions) went under the radar and Chillar Party (UTV Spotboy) is yet to release, it was in the significant role of Rani Mukerjee’s boss in No One Killed Jessica (UTV), that Satyadeep attracted a whole lot of positive attention.
But Satyadeep is unwilling to let recent and relative success go to his head too much (Vipassana keeps him zen, he says) and he knows that the road ahead is long and hard. He has other hobbies like photography to keep him happy even when the acting profession threatens to chew and spit him out. But given that he is about to get more prominence playing a young man(a character who has found a way to happiness that others can only be envious of) in Love BreakUps Zindagi , it doesn’t seem like this ex-lawyer, ex-bureaucrat, and passionate actor is going anywhere anytime soon.
