Born on June 23, 1923 this actor tried out several jobs before he was bit by the bug called acting. Rehman, suffered three massive heart-attacks before he was detected of having throat cancer. This reduced the otherwise courageous actor into pieces and he died with lots of pain. Rehman, the stalwart, was a true warrior. Rehman's entry into films is quite interesting. At first he started working as the third assistant to director Vikram Bedekar at Prabhat Studios. Later on, while assisting director D. D. Kashyap for the film 'Chand', there was a desperate search for a Pathan. As Rehman was the only one around who could tie a turban in Pathani style, he was given the role and the rest was history. This two-line dialogue role addicted him and now he was ready for more challenging roles. He went for his first major film 'Hum Ek Hain' (1946) with Dev Anand. The other films were 'Nargis', 'Badi Bahen', 'Paras', 'Pyar Ki Jeet', 'Saawariya', 'Magroor', 'Pardes', 'Dil Diya Dard Liya' and 'Dost'. He also did some small roles as in 'Aandhi' and 'Aashiq Hoon Baharon Ka'. But some of his most memorable films are 'Pyaasa' (1957), 'Chaudhvi Ka Chand' (1960) and 'Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam' (1962). His eventual films were 'Aahista Aahista', 'Dil Aakhir Dil Hai' and 'Rajput'. Most of his co-stars were Waheeda Rehman, Nanda, Meena Kumari and Mala Sinha.
