Born in 1929, Rajendra Kumar took a long and tedious journey to Bombay during partition. Bitten by acting bug, he wanted to make it big in films. But he had to make do with miniscule rules before his true reckoning came.
Rajendra Kumar's first film was 'Mela' (1948) where he played an extra. But it took more than seven years to come across his first major break in 1955 and the film was 'Vachan'. From then on, his place was secured and he was considered as one of the most happening stars of that time. One of his films 'Mother India' (1957) where he played the good son of Nargis, boosted his career a lot. In 1959, it was 'Gunj Uthi Shehnai' which brought him into the league of big stars. His next films like 'Dil Ek Mandir', 'Arzoo', 'Mere Mehboob', 'Sasural' and 'Sangam' were major successes and his career went ahead by leaps and bounds. He was rechristened as Jubilee Kumar. He worked with almost all the top heroines like Mala Sinha, Sadhana, Saira Bano, Meena Kumari, Vaijantimala and Hema Malini. Later on in 1981 he launched his son Kumar Gaurav in super hit film 'Love Story'. But he has not able to repeat his performance after that.
