Kunal Kemmu was born on 25th May 1983 in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. Kemmu's parents are actors Ravi Kemmu and Jyoti Khemu. His parents are (Kashmiri) Pandits. Born in 1983 in Srinagar, Kunal moved to Mumbai when he was very young. He studied in Mumbai's Narsee Monjee College.

Kunal debuted on television as a child actor in the critically acclaimed 'Gul Gulshan Gulfam' in 1987. He later did successful movies like 'Sir' and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke in the year 1993, Raja Hindustani in 1996, and Dushman and Zakhm in 1998.

After that he disappeared from the horizons of the Hindi movie industry, only to reappear in 2005 as the lead character in Kalyug. In 2007, he played the role of Silsila in Madhur Bhandharkar's Traffic Signal, which was again appreciated. His third release in 2007 was Priyadarshan's Dhol. Superstar in 2008 didn't make any impact on the box-office.

He was next seen in Krishna DK and Raj Nidimoru's 99, alongside Soha Ali Khan, which did very well at the box-office. His Dhoondte Reh Jaoge, also starring Sonu Sood and Soha Ali Khan, was also met with much appreciation, while his Jai Veeru, alongside Fardeen Khan, failed to make a mark. In the year 2010, he was seen in Golmaal 3, which is his biggest hit so far.

In 2012, he was seen in Blood Money, which did decent business at the box-office. In 2013, he impressed one and all with his acting (and writing) skills in Go Goa Gone, which also starred Saif Ali Khan, Vir Das, Anand Tiwari and Puja Gupta.

Kunal has been dating actress Soha Ali Khan for a few years now.
