A native of Boston and an alumnus of the Interlochen Theater Arts Summer Program, Ben Foster has been acting professionally since he was 16. Foster, who wrote, directed, and starred in his first play at the tender age of 12, landed his first professional acting jobs on television, appearing in both made-for-TV films and weekly series alike. In 1999, he starred in his first major feature film, Barry Levinson's Liberty Heights. A historical drama set among middle-class Baltimore Jews in the 1950s, the film cast Foster as a Jewish high school senior who enters into a socially condemned relationship with an African-American girl (Rebekah Johnson) in his class.
