Antara Mali is the daughter of renowned commercial photographer Jagdish Mali. Her grand father was a great painter. With such a strong legacy of art it was natural that she would be involved in some sort of art and Antra decided in favor of acting in films. She made her debut in Bollywood in a low budget movie "Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge", which went unnoticed. She first appeared in a cameo in the 1999 movie 'Mast', which had Urmilla Matondkar in the lead and was directed by Ram Gopal Verma. Since that time she became Ramu's muse as after that she featured in many RGV films as the lead actress but none of the movies could either make it big at the Box Office or get any recognition for Antara. She received a lot of appreciation for her work in 'Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon' opposite Rajpal Yadav. Her other popular movies are 'Road', 'Darna Mana Hai, 'Company', all directed by her mentor Ram Gopal Verma. Besides Hindi films, she has also acted in a Telugu movie 'Prem Katha', which was her launch vehicle and was again directed by RGV. The only memorable movie she has to her credit is 'Company' which fared well at the Box Office. Although Antara was critically acclaimed for her performances in each of her films, she discontinued her acting career after production of her last film 'Mr Ya Miss' which she had also written and directed as it was received poorly and critically panned. Antara paid her tribute to the Bollywood legend Madhuri Dixit by playing an aspiring actress inspired by Madhuri in the movie 'Main Madhuri Diixit Banna Chahti Hoo'. These days she has bid adieu to cinema and has settled down.
