All the hype around Karan Johar’s upcoming film, Kalank had us eagerly waiting for the teaser of the movie however, now that it has been unveiled we are terribly confused.
The trailers shows snippets of the lead characters and while the sets are magnificent we can’t even figure out which place is the film based in. You can see mountains, you have giant water lilies, there’s an arena, you can see a woman running in the desert and there’s South Indian kind architecture, so the question is where exactly is this film happening?
That aside, even the story line is not clear so, you don’t have any idea what’s happening in the teaser other than this that Alia Bhatt is in love with Varun Dhawan but she gets married to Aditya Roy Kapur and Aditya Roy Kapur is in bed with Sonakshi Sinha. Madhuri is palying a courtesan and is looking very graceful and she has some relation with Sanjay Dutt’s character but what exactly is happening between the two, that’s also been kept under wraps.
Varun Dhawan is playing a gladiator and is seen fighting a bison or was it a buffalo? Can’t say since the VFX and CGI is really bad. The sets, though, are magnificent and the film is visually very appealing. There’s also Ram Leela happening on a massive scale in the background so we are sure that it will form a key ingredient in the narrative.
The teaser has only two dialogues. As the video plays one can hear Varun saying, “Kuch risthey karzon ki tarah hotey hai, unhe nibhana nahi chukana padhta hai.” Then you hear Alia saying as she sits in the mandap next to Aditya, “Jab kisi aur ki barbadi apni jeet jaisi lagey, to humse zyada barbad aur koi nahi hai is dunya mein.”
Though they have shrouded the film’s plot in secrecy, the makers have revealed that the movie is set in 1945, Pre-Independence India and is a tale of eternal love. Okay, if you say so but we had high hopes from the teaser and were left disappointed. This teaser looks right out of a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, though Sanjay’s sets are extraordinary.
Directed by Abhishek Varman, the film stars Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sonakshi Sinha, Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt in the lead roles and is slated to release on April 17.
