Neither Simran nor Lucknow Central have managed to entice audience this week. It is a sad scene in theaters as shows are running to very low occupancy, what with Simran bringing in 1.25 crore on Tuesday and Lucknow Central collecting around 1 crore*. Considering the fact that both films have around 2000 screens between them, the overall occupancy is just around 10% which tells the tale.
2017 has seen quite a few disappointments so far and for films with Kangana Ranaut and Farhan Akhtar in the lead roles it is a new low this week. Though neither of the two films seemed like major successes in the making, it was expected (at least at the announcement stage) that both came with a potential of at least 25 crore each even in the worst case scenario. However, the fact that now the combined collections of both films will just about cross this number pretty much tells the tale.
Coming Friday sees Bhoomi, Haseena Parkar and Newton hitting the screens. One just hopes that there is some sort of a turnaround because with 13.31 crore for Simran and 10.50 crore* for Lucknow Central so far, Bollywood is hardly shining!
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
