After enthralling the audiences with his films like No One Killed Jessica and Raid, Raj Kumar Gupta is now ready to bring the story of India’s greatest spy on the big screens.
The director’s next is based on Ravinder Kaushik, an actor-turned-RAW agent aka The Black Tiger, a name given to Ravinder Kaushik by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for his bravery and valuable contribution towards the nation. Kaushik’s family has given the rights to his story to Gupta and the director will start working on it after he completes his next, India’s Most Wanted.
Confirming the reports, Raj Kumar Gupta said, “Shri Ravinder Kaushik was India’s greatest spy. Interestingly, he was an actor before becoming a spy. It’s an emotional and remarkable story. We are at the scripting stage for the film. I am humbled and thankful to his family, who trusted me and gave me the rights to turn this unbelievable story into a film.”
Ravinder Kaushik’s sister, Mrs. Shashi Vashisth said, “Bachpan se hi desh bhakti ka jazba uske dil mei tha. He used to write plays on patriotism and was very good looking. People used to call him Vinod Khanna. I know my brother’s story is very unique and many people have approached us to make a film on him but it never felt right as it’s very personal for us. When Raj Kumar Gupta approached us, since we knew of his films like No One Killed Jessica, we felt confident .He is a sensible filmmaker and he is the right person to tell my brother’s story for the first time.”
Now, John Abraham is playing a spy in Romeo Akbar Walter and it seems that his espionage thriller too is loosely based on Kaushik’s life. As RAW is releasing on April 12, Raj Kumar Gupta will have to write a mind-blowing narrative to lure the audiences to the theaters. Alia Bhatt’s Raazi was also inspired by the life of a spy and now we are eager to see what Gupta will bring to the table with his spy movie.
Gupta is presently busy with the post-production of India’s Most Wanted, which stars Arjun Kapoor and Amrita Puri in the lead roles. The film is slated to release on May 24.
