Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh, who made his Bollywood debut with Udta Punjab, will be next seen in Soorma, which is based on the life of hockey player Sandeep Singh and we recently learned some interesting trivia about the film.
In an interview, Diljit candidly admitted that when he was approached for the film, he initially turned it down as he felt that there were too many films on hockey anyway (Chak De India, Gold and other hockey films in Punjabi). However, when the producers insisted, he grudgingly agreed to read the script once and was impressed with Sandeep Singh’s journey, which made him give his nod to the film. For those who do not know this, Sandeep Singh was instrumental in bringing India back on the hockey map as one of the prominent teams after a slump in the first decade of the new millennium. He led India to an emphatic win in the Azlan Shah Hockey Cup in 2009.
Directed by Shaad Ali, Soorma, which also stars Taapsee Pannu and Angad Bedi, is slated to release on June 29 next year.
