First they had to change the release date of the movie, to avoid a clash with Thackeray and Manikarnika and now, the makers of Cheat India have been asked to change the film’s title. The movie is now called Why Cheat India.
The film was sent for certification to the CBFC a few days ago and the examining committee wasn’t very happy with the title as they felt that it was misleading and controversial, when seen in context of the movie and the makers have now named it Why Cheat India.
T-series, Ellipsis Entertainment and Emraan Hashmi Films released a joint statement, announcing the new title, which reads, “The CBFC had concerns about the title Cheat India. We had an extensive conversation with the Examining Committee and Revising Committee regarding the proposed change as the film has been in public domain for a year, and more importantly, because the theatrical teaser, trailer and television promos had already been certified with the original title. This would lead to dual communication a week before the release. The duress of lack of time left us with no choice but to mutually agree to the new title, Why Cheat India.”
