Dinesh Vijan continues to be prolific with his films as a producer. Just a few months back he released Happy Ending and now he is ready with Badlapur. This time around, he is pairing up with Sriram Raghavan with whom he has earlier made Agent Vinod. Now for Badlapur, he has Varun Dhawan leading the show with Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the lead antagonist. Just like has been the case with majority of his earlier films, he has produced Badlapur too along with Sunil Lulla of Eros.
With films as varied as Cocktail to Badlapur, you seem to be dabbling with various genres.
(Smiles) I made Being Cyrus, and that too in English, when I was just 23 year old. You figure out your process as you grow older and are exposed to life. What is important for me is to really love the story I wish to tell. When that connects for me then I can do my job. I am not the kind of producer who can do a film even if I don’t like the subject. I need to be connected to my story.
What was your connect with Badlapur?
The fact that it is a story of a regular guy. It dabbles with head spaces. It talks about what happens to a guy when everything is taken away from him, when he is pushed to the edge and he begins to question right and wrong. The movie leaves you to think on how you want to take it home. It’s not a kind of film where you can say that this is going to happen next. That is the kind of strength that Sriram comes with as a director. I have had one of the best working relationships with him. He has made this as a film which I would want to want to watch as an audience. When I look back at the journey, I am very happy.
