It is a known fact that Diljit Dosanjh is a top superstar in Punjabi cinema. Though he has worked across genres there, some of his biggest superhits have all been comedies. However in Bollywood, he would be making a rather belated entry in the comic genre and now that it is happening with Welcome To New York, all eyes are on how well does he manage to succeed in this territory.
“Diljit has worked in two Hindi films so far, Udta Punjab and Phillauri, and in both films he had a rather serious role,” says an observer, “In the former, he played a cop who is out to hunt the drug peddlers. On the other hand in the latter he was a part of a serious romantic supernatural drama. There was no scope for comedy in either of the two films.”
No wonder, a large segment of audience which had lapped up his comic act in Punjabi films like Jatt & Juliet 1 & 2 and Sardaarji 1 & 2 were waiting to catch him in similar action in Hindi films as well.
“Well, in Welcome To New York, you would see Diljit in an out and out hilarious act,” a source attached to the Chakri Toleti directed film comments, “As a simpleton from Punjab, he is a riot in the film. Moreover, his comic camaraderie with not just Sonakshi Sinha but also Karan Johar is something that you should look forward to. It is going to be good fun indeed.”
We look forward to that once this Vashu Bhagnani, Deepshika Deshmukh, Jacky Bhagnani, Andre Timmins, Viraf Sarkari and Sabbas Joseph production hits the screens this Friday.
